This is part of an article for dyeing leather. Though leather shops are selling a wide range of products, they may not be in the color desired. Hence the buyer can try to dye it at home, if he or she has the required time. Guidelines and information about dyeing leather at home are provided for reference.

Supplies and working space
The user has to arrange for supplies and also the place where he can do the dying work. The area should be properly ventilated so that the odours can escape. Since there is a possibility that the leather dye will scatter, it should be well covered, so that it does not get stained. The materials required are rubber gloves, cotton rags or scraps from t-shirts for applying the dyes, cotton swabs for dyeing the edges and corners, leather dye of the desired color, olive or jojoba oil, leather conditioner to extend the life of the leather, and tanned vegetable leather.

Preparation
A clean cloth should be used to wipe the leather properly so that there is no dust or body oils remaining. A tape should be used to cover any hardware which does not have to be dyed. To receive the dye which is applied better, the leather should be hydrated using either jojoba or olive oil. Only a thin coat of either oil is sufficient to hydrate the leather. A clean cloth should be dipped in the oil, and lightly rubbed on all the surfaces of the leather which is being dyed, including the edges using a circular movement.
